Developing and adopting a good daily oral care routine is important in helping minimize the risk of cavities and other issues with your teeth and mouth. In addition to visiting the dentist twice per year, there are a number of things you can do at home in between visits to make sure your mouth stays as healthy as possible.

Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste for two minutes. And be sure to always brush before going to bed.
Floss between each tooth daily. This will reach food particles and bacteria below the gumline that your toothbrush may miss.
Limit your intake of sugary drinks and snacks. Several studies have shown a direct correlation between sugar and cavities.
Brush your tongue with a toothbrush or scraper to remove the plaque that builds up on it.
Rinse your mouth after brushing. Swishing with water or mouthwash will help clear tidbits of toothpaste and food that even brushing and flossing can miss.
Oral health is linked to a range of other health conditions, which is why it’s so important to take good care of your mouth. Cardiovascular disease, respiratory illnesses, and other issues can be linked to oral health. Additionally, health issues like diabetes, HIV/AIDS, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer’s disease can affect your oral health, so if you have any of these conditions, pay extra close attention to your oral care.
